It is so confused to use USB-c to name USB 3.2 launched this year

As the most popular interface in this world, USB has made great progresses in recent years; especially the transmission rates have been upgraded from 480Mpbs in earlier year to 5Gbps, 10Gbps and the latest USB 3.2 version of 20Gbps. The USB interface is tightly catching the step of the speed, as it is one of the main parameter for people to pursuit, no matter it is for accessory or main device, the speed is always the key part to improve. That’s why the new USB interface emerges.

At the MWC 2019 conference, the USB-IF organization also highlighted USB 3.2 interface, which was launched in 2017, and revealed that it supported the USB 3.2 Type-C model. Also the independent controllers and related devices that are compatible with this new interface will be launched later this year. However, the name of USB 3.2 interface is same as one of the USB 3.0 member, there are totally different port, so the accurate name is needed for it.

Although USB-IF organization does not release the specific name and time, but it is not difficult to predict that the supplier who can do the main controller is also ASmedia and some others. The available controller for this latest USB interface must use high-end motherboard; the related motherboard is expected to be launched by the end of this year.

There is one issue needed to be mention in advance. At the beginning, the USB-IF just announces that USB 3.2 is same connection style as Type-C (USB-C for short), because USB 3.2 is able to double the speed. The key technology of USB 3.2 is using the Tx/Rx starter channel that already is used for Type-C interface, but the difference is USB 3.2 adopting two channels, whereas the previous USB A and USB B interfaces fail to do the same.

In other words, USB Type-C will gradually replace old USB interfaces in the future.

However, as we mentioned earlier about the name, USB-IF has re-named the USB 3.x series, those are USB 3.0, USB 3.1, and USB 3.2, which are all the earlier version of the USB 3.2 sequence. They are respectively called USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 3.2 Gen 2, and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, and the last one is obviously intended to highlight the dual-channel mode.

In this way, manufacturers will greatly advertise that their products support for USB 3.2ports if you buy motherboards, mobile hard drives, notebooks and other products. But you have to identify the generation the USB interface, as the speed of this USB port is twice or even four times as the old version. Along with the USB interface development, all the devices with USB port will welcome one revolution. As the speed is getting updated, the transmission process will be faster and easier, it is very helpful for consumers. Therefore, all the manufacturers are positively updating their devices in order to catch up the change; moreover the profit of these new products will be impressive.
