UNIS builds the fourth memory Chip Base in Guangzhou  The total investment reaches 100 billion Yuan

Memory chips, including the NAND Flash for memory storage, the importation value of them was more than $100 billion last year, it is accounting for 1/3 share of all integrated circuit imports, and turns out that almost 100% of domestic market supply dependent on imports. In order to solve this problem, memory chip is one of the priority industries for development in China in recent years. Many people know that Yangtze River storage belonging to UNIS has been saying that 3D NAND flash memory will be in mass production this year. In fact, Wuhan is just one of the locations where the memory chips strategy of UNIS Group is laid out, and there are also huge investments in Chengdu and Nanjing. At the annual investment meeting in Guangzhou yesterday, UNIS Group announced the establishment of South headquarters of UNIS in Guangzhou and signed a framework agreement in Guangzhou for the cooperation of Series storage projects launched by UNIS. It is reported that the projects will invest 100 billion Yuan and will build two wafers Fab in Guangzhou.

At the 2019 China Guangzhou International Investment Conference, which opened yesterday, Yu Yingtao, co-president of UNIS Group, delivered one speech, announcing that UNIS Group will build the southern headquarters of UNIS Grop, 5G Research Institute, and innovation infrastructure production base in Guangzhou. Taking the advantage of Guangzhou's regional zone and ecological environment, UNIS Group will promote the development of Guangzhou's digital economy.

In addition to 5G projects, another important cooperation announced by UNIS Group is Guangzhou memory Chip Base. UNIS has formally signed the Series Storage Projects Cooperation Framework Agreement with Guangzhou High-tech Zone and Huangpu District. According to reports, UNIS will invest 100 billion Yuan in Guangzhou in the future; it aims to build two wafer factories to produce memory chips.

From the report, the memory chip layout launched by UNIS in Guangzhou is still in protocol, there is no actual investment, factory construction is also engaging in idle theorizing. In addition, the series of capital operations from UNIS are also confused, because UNIS announced that its South China headquarters would be located in Dongguan and planned to invest 100 billion Yuan in Dongguan at the end of 2017, it was planning to build the core cloud industrial city project of UNIS Group, and this project was named as "the South China Regional headquarters Project of UNIS Group."

But that investment was also in protocol, and now UNIS has announced that its South China headquarters will be located in Guangzhou, it is meaning that Dongguan's investment agreement has been invalid, at least the South China headquarters investment is not existing any more.

It is uncertain when UNIS will implement its investment in Guangzhou, but with the announcement of the investment agreement, rumors of UNIS’s layout of the fourth memory chip base have been confirmed. UNIS Group has invested heavily in memory chip bases in Wuhan, Chengdu and Nanjing before Guangzhou.

In Wuhan, UNIS acquired XMC Technology and built the Yangtze River Storage Company. The total investment of the project is US $24 billion, the first phase of the project has been completed, and the second phase of the project, which invested US $1.78 billion last year, has also been officially launched. These two phases of the project mainly produce 3D NAND flash memory.

In Chengdu, the Chengdu memory Manufacturing Base project launched by UNIS also started in October last year, covering an area of about 1200 mu, with a total investment of US $24 billion, and will build a 12-inch 3D NAND Chip wafer production line. And it will carry out the research and development of memory chips and modules, the solutions of other related products, the manufacturing and sales of chips, this project is in order to build one world-class semiconductor industry base.

In Nanjing, it is almost launching at the same time as the Chengdu project, the "UNIS Nanjing Integrated Circuit Base Project (Phase I)" also held a ceremony in Nanjing, with an investment of US $10.5 billion, with a monthly production capacity of about one hundred thousand wafers after the completion of the project. The total investment in the project is expected to be as high as $30 billion.

The storage base in Guangzhou is still under planning, and the total investment and production capacity are still unknown.

In the field of memory chips, UNIS has a huge investment plan of hundreds of billions of dollars. Last year, Zhao Weiguo, chairman of UNIS, said that UNIS would invest $100 billion to build a chip manufacturing base over the next 10 years, and has so far raised 180 billion Yuan.
